US media giant Paramount has secured the rights to broadcast the Champions League in the UK from 2027, in a major shake-up of the football TV landscape.

BBC Sport reports that Paramount will pay significantly more than the current £1bn deal held by TNT Sports. The agreement will run for four years, taking coverage through to 2031.

Amazon Prime will also keep its Tuesday night fixture each week for the next four seasons.

The move follows the UC3 initiative — a collaboration between UEFA, the European Club Association and commercial partner Relevent — which aims to modernise how elite European football is marketed and distributed.

Paramount already has a working relationship with UEFA, having produced the high-end draw films used before Champions League group stage ceremonies in recent seasons.

Industry sources say the deal could be positive for the Premier League, bringing another major broadcaster into the rights market and helping maintain the overall value of football TV deals in the UK.

There has also been recent speculation over a potential Paramount bid for Warner Bros Discovery, the parent company of TNT Sports.
